Abstract
Drug Utilization Review (DUR) has been introduced in 1960s in the United States and mandated to be performed in all states of the USA from 1993 by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA ¡®90). The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulates the all states in the USA and develop the DUR program systematically and independently based on the basic requirements of OBRA ¡®90. In this paper we described the DUR criteria and prospective/retrospective DUR to introduce advanced DUR system in the USA.
